Burke and Rossmann unexpected winners ORM

The 2022 Ötztaler Radmarathon had two surprising winners. In the men, Canadian Jack Burke took the win. In the women's race, Catherine Rossmann (DE) crossed the line first.

Perfect weather

The ORM in good cycling weather: it's actually possible! The weather conditions were not the problem this year. The race had a surprising winner for both the men and the women. None of the favorites played a huge role. Jack Burke won, ahead of Dominik Salcher and Alban Lataka (both from Austria). The big favorite and defending champion Johnny Hoogerland had a bad day and only finished at p23.

"I unfortunately had a bad day. I had to let go 3 km before the top of the Jaufen and then I went at my own pace up the Timmelsjoch. There I suffered quite a bit. It is what it is." - Johnny Hoogerland.

CycloWorld editor Pieter Frolichs rode a solid race and finished a decent 35th. The full results in the men's race can be found here.

Maltha also comes up short

In the women's race, Martha Maltha couldn't live up to her favorites role either, she finished 3rd after number 2 Samantha Arnaudo (IT) and winner Catherine Rossmann (DE). Rossmann is no stranger to competition as she also won TOUR Transalp this year. Maltha could live with a third place:

"Of course I had hoped to win, but there were just two better today. They were in front of me from the beginning, after Kühtai I caught up with Rossmann again and we rode the Brenner together with a good group. At some point we caught another group in which the Arnaudo was riding. So we rode with the three of us to the Jaufenpas, but there it was immediately clear that they were stronger. I started that climb with more or less the same power that I had wanted to ride uphill all day, but they immediately rode away from me. And actually from the Jaufenpass it became a kind of survival for me. I fell further and further back in terms of tempo and was really happy that I was on top of the Timmelsjoch. I'm definitely happy with this third place, there was just no more in it yesterday and I have already achieved my main goal for the year."

CycloWorld editor Nicolien Luijsterburg was very pleased with her 17th place. Full results here.
