La Vaujany is known as the gran fondo ridden a week before the Marmotte. Because of COVID, the organizer decided not to put the event on the calendar this year. GFNY took over the organization, changed the name to GFNY La Vaujany and made sure it can still take place. In addition, a completely new, spectacular course was create. CycloWorld is the first to reveal it.
With the slogan 1 dream destination, 2 races, GFNY is organizing not one but two events from Vaujany.
GFNY La Vaujany (June 20) is the successor of the former gran fondo La Vaujany. This popular event is always organized a week before the Marmotte. This has remained unchanged.
Last year, the GFNY Alpes Vaujany made its debut in the GF world. However, this is a different event, note the subtle difference in name. An event with a beautiful course over the Col de la Croix de Fer, Col du Glandon and the climb to Vaujany. This event is scheduled for August 29. Last year, the race was cancelled due to horrible weather conditions. But it was able to occur, completely COVID safe! CycloWorld was there, read the report.
The organization understands that the naming can be confusing and has therefore launched a website with information on both events. CEO Uli Fluhme commented, "It was also our intention to better distinguish the names. But we had to respect the tradition of La Vaujany as well as certain other restrictions when using race names."

Alpe d'Huez is at the heart of the redesigned route of the GFNY La Vaujany. The start is in Vaujany, after which the peloton descends neutralized to the Lac du Verney. Here it all starts with the three-stage climb to the Col de Sarenne via Villard-Reculas and the southeast side of Alpe d'Huez (the so-called truck route). The descent is followed by the second ascent to Alpe d'Huez, this time via the classic side. The participants make a loop in the village and descend again via Villard-Reculas. The extremely difficult climb to Vaujany serves as dessert. A total of 102 kilometers and 3669 meters of climbing. Check out the route here.
We're very excited about this. Many times the Vaujany is used as a preparation for the Marmotte. In the past the route was over 170 kilometers, which was a very large distance for a preparation ride. The new route with Alpe d'Huez as its central point naturally appeals to everyone's imagination.
