Short news: Marmotte, ORM unsure, updated route for GFNY Lourdes
Because of holidays, a brief episode of the short news. Nevertheless, there is plenty to report.
- On September 4, the 40th edition of the Marmotte will be held. Organizer Cycling Classics France had the idea to send the riders over the Col de la Croix de Fer instead of the Col du Glandon. Originally this was the route of the first editions. Unfortunately, not all municipalities are willing to cooperate, so the plan will not happen. The Marmotte is therefore just over the Glandon, which has been the case since 2006.
- Whether the Ötzaler Radmarathon can take place this year is still unsure. Due to a rock slide between Zwieselstein and Sölden, the Austrian side of the Timmelsjoch is closed until further notice. Read here all the info about the Timmelsjoch.
- Last week GFNY announced the birth of a new gran fondo in the Pyrenees; the GFNY Lourdes Tourmalet. Along with many others, we thought 107 kilometers and 2,750m+ was a bit low for the Pyrenees. They listened to the feedback, because there is now a beautiful course of 165 kilometers and 4495m+. The Col d'Aspin was added plus some hills of lesser fame. We support it wholeheartedly. Make a note of June 12, 2022 in your agenda.
