Initially, it appeared that the Gran Fondo Ireland would not be part of the UCI Gran Fondo World Series 2024-2025. However, last Friday it was confirmed that the organizers had managed to secure its inclusion.

It was already clear that the original starting point, Galway City, had withdrawn. The region was unwilling to invest time and money in the event. Therefore, the organizers had to look for an alternative. Despite this, the UCI went ahead and published the calendar for this season, initially excluding Gran Fondo Ireland. Ultimately, everything worked out. The event will take place on June 29 and 30, now starting from Sligo in the northwest of Ireland. Sligo is located about 2,5 hours from Dublin. The event is now included in the UCI calendar.
On Saturday, June 29, there will first be an optional time trial, but its route is not yet known. The following day (June 30) is set for the road races. The length of the gran fondo has not been announced, but its total elevation gain is known: 1176 meters. The medio fondo will have slightly less: 993 meters. The distance for both routes is still to be confirmed. It will also be possible to ride the medio fondo as a non-competitive sportive ride.
