Located at the foot of the Gotthard tunnel, Andermatt is the perfect base to discover some of Europe's most beautiful cols. The village lies at a crossroads between the cantons of Bern, Valais, Ticino and Graübunden. This makes it fairly easy to make nice rides. The surroundings are extremely beautiful. But Andermatt is much more than just cycling. In the summer, it is perfect for hiking, golfing or just relaxing. Andermatt is relatively affordable and easy to reach. In short: Andermatt is the perfect holiday destination.
Switzerland is, of course, known as a cheese country. Rustic, farmer-style dishes such as cheese fondue, alpine pasta, rösti and raclette are on the menu everywhere. Andermatt itself, however, has a more international clientele, which is clearly reflected in the menu. From Asian, Italian to French or local, there is something for everyone. The price level is quite acceptable for Swiss standards.
Usually, local beer is served in a 0.3 litre glass that the Swiss call 'eine Stange'. Swiss wine is not well known outside Switzerland, as it is hardly exported. Nevertheless, it is certainly worth trying.
Fantastic roads, great cols, quiet traffic, fantastic scenery: cycling in this region is truly 5-star. There are plenty of famous cols. The most famous ones? How about Grimselpass, Sustenpass, Nufenenpass, old Gotthardpass (with cobblestones), the Furkapass and the Grosse Scheidegg. And that is just the tip of the iceberg.
Gotthard - Nufenen - Furka? Furka - Nufenen - Gotthard? Susten - Grimsel - Furka? Or maybe Gotthard - Lukmanier - Oberalp? The number of possible loops is almost unlimited. On Komoot you will find a great collection of routes. Also check out our special collection with the official routes of the Alpenbrevet.

What is there to do besides cycling in Andermatt? Some examples:
Just below the top of the Furkapass, you can find Hotel Belvédere. Once the setting for the James Bond film "Goldfinger". It is said that Sean Connery was a regular guest - even after filming. The empty hotel is a pilgrimage for every cyclist. Right next to the hotel, you can take a look in the ice caves, of which, unfortunately, are disappearing more and more due to climate change.
Andermatt has its own train station. From here, you can take the train up the Oberalp, or the other way, towards the Furkapass. Whichever way you choose, you will be treated to the most picturesque Alpine scenery imaginable. A guarantee for succes and last but not least: on time.
