The new Gran Fondo Alé La Merckx from Livigno is an absolute top gran fondo through the most beautiful Alpine regions of Switzerland and Italy. The long route passes no less than six cols above 2000 meters. It is the only gran fondo with the fabulous Umbrail in the route. The finish is on Mottolino, a hard climb also included in the 2024 Giro. With 167 km/4300 m+, it is one of the most challenging gran fondos in Europe. The medio fondo is also worth mentioning with 107 km/2050 m+.
The Gran Fondo Alé La Merckx is new, the organization, however, is not. For years this event was held in Verona and in 2023 it even functioned as the official European Championship Granfondo. That experience will be brought to Livigno. Expect lots of atmosphere and high quality in every aspect.
We attended last year with our team and came back enthusiastic. Read the reports below.

Livigno (1816 m) is situated in Italy, near the border with Switzerland. It is best known as a ski resort and as a tax-free zone. You can take advantage of that nicely.
Because of its high altitude, it is often used as an altitude training camp by cyclists. After 1972 and 2005, another finish is planned in Livigno in 2024. The last 30 kilometers of the 15e stage are identical to the route of the granfondo. One day later, Livigno is starting point of the next stage.
