The Neusiedlersee Radmarathon is a race for fast men and women! With "only" 600 meters of climbing over 125 km, it's a very fast course. No big Alpine cols, but peloton riding, pounding through the ind and pedaling really hard. The fastest riders average 43 and an average rider easily exceeds 35. The course is largely closed off by a corridor of motorcycles.
Optionally, on Saturday there is the possibility to ride the time trial on a 26 km course with 200 meters of climbing.
On Sunday it is then time for the gran fondo. The course is 125 km with about 600 meters of elevation.
The top 20% in each age category will qualify for the UCI World Cup Gran Fondo which will be held this year in Glasgow over a similar course.
Neusiedlersee Radmarathon is held in the area of Burgenland, Austria's easternmost state bordering the countries of Slovenia and Hungary. Burgenland is a beautiful region, with excellent infrastructure for cyclists. It is generally wonderfully quiet. Last but not least, the state has a mild climate, with an average of 300 Sundays a year.
Especially for companies, there is the possibility to ride the gran fondo as team of 4 persons, including classification and award ceremony for the fastest teams. You can choose the full distance of 125 km / 600m+ or the shorter variant of 65 km / 300m+.
For the little ones, there are also fat tire races in various age categories on the Saturday. The perfect opportunity to introduce children to cycling.
