The UCI Gran Fondo World Series has been around since 2011. The concept has hardly changed in all these years. If you participate in one of the races belonging to this series, you can qualify for the final UCI World Gran Fondo Championship by riding in the top 20% in your age group. At this World Championship (this season near Glasgow, Scotland) you will ride for your country and thus also wear your country's jersey.
Of course, participation in the Worlds up is not mandatory. The races can also be ridden separately.
The races from UCI Gran Fondo World Series are gran fondos, but often a time trial is organized separately. The time trial is usually held one or two days prior to the gran fondo.
As a time trialist, you can also qualify for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships. At the World Championships, of course, a time trial is also organized.
