For cyclists, Auberge La Douce Montagne is the place to be. The hotel is situated in a valley, so start and finish are flat. From here you climb the most beautiful cols such as the Col de la Croix de Fer, Col du Glandon, Col d'Ornon, Col de la Morte, Les Deux Alpes and of course Alpe d'Huez. Also take a look at our gran fondo arrangements.
In all seasons La Douce Montagne is a good base for exploring the Alps. Of course you can cycle, ski and hike, but the Alps are also very suitable for many other activities. September and October usually have mild and sunny weather and beautiful autumn colours. On your return to the hotel, a delicious three-course dinner awaits you to recharge your batteries for the next day.
Every year, Auberge La Douce Montagne puts together a number of packages for participation in gran fondos (cyclo sportive events) in the French Alps. Think for example of La Marmotte, but also the triathlon. As an athlete you will certainly feel at home in our auberge. Of course, we have all kinds of information about beautiful preparation rounds. Of course your equipment can be stored in the alarm protected bicycle shed.
Every year we organise our own granfondo on the last Saturday of September. The granfondo is intended for well-trained cycling tourists and has four serious climbs: Col du Glandon, Lacets de Montvernier, Col du Mollard and the Col de la Croix de Fer. The length is 131 kilometres with 4500 meters of elevation. See the route on Strava.
We offer a four-day package, so you can get used to the altitude and explore the surroundings for a few days.
Of course there are numerous cycle routes in the vicinity of Auberge La Douce Montagne. We have more routes than you can cycle. If you still have special wishes, please ask our staff. We are connoisseurs of the region and have lots of secret tips for you.
Don't want to go cycling for a day and visit a big city? That is possible too, because the centre of Grenoble is only 45 kilometres from our hotel. It has 160,000 inhabitants and is the largest city in the Alps. It is therefore also called the capital of the Alps.
The old town centre is cosy with its many cafes and restaurants. A great place to stroll or do some shopping. You will also find numerous museums here. The Bastille is the old fortress and is situated on the steep slope along the river Isère. It is the city's most famous attraction and can be reached via the equally famous cable car.
