5 Strava titles that are categorically wrong

Navigating the Strava title conundrum can be either a breeze or an artful endeavor. Crafting an exceptional title might consume your time, or you could opt for a more casual approach. Unquestionably, devising a captivating title isn't always a walk in the park. But what's the cardinal rule? Think before you ink. Note: You're free to immerse yourself in this article or take it with a pinch of salt—the choice is yours.

5. Spelling blunders

A title laden with spelling errors, especially in event names or, worse, mountain passes, inevitably attracts deduction points. 'Retour Galebier' or 'Strada Bianche 2023'—these titles hardly deserve a second glance.

4. Workouts and training data

Dubbing your ride '4x 2" Z4 + 12x 1" Z5' might exude coolness, but it's a one-way ticket to disclosure. Leave such intricacies for the description section. Complexities like '323W NP' or 'FTP 423W' are also better suited for that category.

3. Incorrect use of "Gran Fondo"

The term 'gran fondo' is apt only if you've genuinely participated in an event with a mass start, timing, and rankings—rather than merely cycling 100 km through the countryside.

Participating in a Strava 'gran fondo challenge' is a matter of contention as well.

2. Misleading titles

Misleading titles come in various flavors. 'But let's get that derailleur checked' or 'Have been sick' fall into the excuse category. There's more—'Lake Tour with Pete' is another example, often employed to explain a lower average speed due to Pete's leisurely pace. The use of terms like 'social ride' also falls under this umbrella.

Lastly, there's the guise of modesty. 'Didn't feel quite right' when achieving a 35 kph average or securing second place in a race. Onward!

1. Automatic Titles

Securing the top spot, we have Strava's auto-generated titles: morning ride, lunch ride, evening ride, night ride. Such lackadaisical labeling warrants no praise, even if your journey spans 500 km. This is one area where no debate exists.
