A tragedy at the Schleck Granfondo. A participant in the medio fondo fell on a descent and crashed into a house. He was resuscitated at the scene, but did not survive the crash.
The accident happened just after the medio fondo and the gran fondo rejoined. The participants of the gran fondo had completed 134 km. The race was halted immediately.
After waiting for 15 minutes, it was decided to ride to the finish in neutralized form. The passages on the final intermediate times will count as results. These times will also be used for World Cup qualifying.
In this way a sun-drenched morning in Luxembourg ends in a tragedy. Our thoughts are with the relatives of the victim.
