Giro Sardegna: custom-made multi-day event with gravel race

The Giro Sardegna, a congenial Italian multi-day gran fondo, recently announced a special addition to its lineup: a one-day gravel race that doubles as a UCI qualifier.

Giro Sardegna: Tailor-made

The Giro Sardegna (April 20-26) presents a unique stage race concept, offering participants several options to choose how they want to experience the event:

  • Opt for the maximum challenge with the GranGiro: six stages covering 525 km and 6939 meters of elevation, featuring timekeeping, daily winners, and an overall ranking.
  • Choose the shorter MedioGiro at 435 km and 5418 meters of elevation, still competitive and rewarding.
  • Prefer a single-day race? Participants can ride the opening stages as a standalone event in both GranFondo and MedioFondo.
  • For a non-competitive option, there's the Tour, offering a daily short ride with minimal climbing.

Building on past experience, the organization accommodates individual preferences, allowing participants to switch between options or create their own custom mix.

The mountainous east side

Each year, the Giro Sardegna selects a different corner of the island as its base. For 2023, the scenic Marina di Orosei in the mountainous east serves as the starting point. With all stages starting and finishing there, participants can enjoy cycling and easily unwind by the sea or on the beach.

The organization offers an optional hotel in the starting town, but participants can arrange their own accommodations.

New: UCI Gravel Race

The GiroSardegnaGravel, a UCI qualifier, is set for April 25, 2024. The long route spans three rounds, covering 134 km with 1939 meters of elevation. Older age category participants in the medio fondo ride two rounds (93 km with 1328 meters of elevation). Participants in the GranGiro or MedioGiro can also join the GiroSardegnaGravel as an optional fifth stage, with a day's winner determined after one lap of 52 km with 707 meters of elevation.

Individuals can also visit Sardinia specifically to ride the GiroSardegnaGravel alone!
