The Gran Fondo Strade Bianche 2023 has produced two doping cases. Two prize winners are accused of the same offense: missing a doping test.
It involves Dane Mikkel Videbaek (winner gran fondo) and the number three in the medio fondo, Italian Giulio Scopetani. As usual in Italy, this is a provisional suspension, which will most likely be converted to a permanent one later.
Missing a check seems to be a trend in the gran fondo world. Previously, both Pipo Garnero and Raphael Addy tried to avoid punishment in this manner. Garnero attracted attention in doing so and was caught on EPO at the Haute Route Alpe d'Huez shortly thereafter. Addy was suspended for two years by the Swiss Cycling Federation for his missed control in La Marmotte.
