In our short news, we bring you quick updates from the world of gran fondos and sportives.
The French gran fondo Marmotte Pyrénées has unveiled a new, more challenging route. This route is tougher than its predecessors, while simplifying logistics. The start is now in Argelès-Gazost and the finish is at Hautacam, a layout akin to the Marmotte Alpes.
Previously, there were two variants:
Both options required a 20 km ride back post-finish. This inconvenience is eliminated in the new route, as Hautacam's base is near Argelès-Gazost. The new route extends from 163 to 177 km, with the meters of climbing increasing from 5,600 to 5,700 meters.
The third stage of the UCI-recognized Cyprus Gran Fondo now includes an extra 5 km, according to the organizers. This extension brings the long route of stage three to 59 km, while the medio fondo is close behind at 50 km. The meters of ascent remain the same, at 1440m+ and 1090m+, respectively. The time trial and first stage routes are unchanged.
As an update, the event's organization notes that registration is filling up quickly. To avail of the early bird discount, participants must register by February 29.
