Short news: LBL, Rhön RM, Engadin RM, Skoda Velotour

In the short news section, we bundle news that is too short for its own article. This time a jam-packed edition with news about a variety of events.

  • After 38 years, the curtain falls on the LBL Ardennes Classic. This is the version of Liège-Bastogne-Liège organized by Le Champion. The 2022 edition will be the last. The organization announced that arranging the permits was too much trouble to continue. Fortunately, other versions of LBL remain.
  • The Veldslag om Norg will also disappear. At least, the race for the pros. Fortunately, the version for amateurs will remain on the calendar. The date: September 2, 2023.
  • Registration for the Rhön Radmarathon will open on January 21, 2023 at 7:00 AM CET. This German sportive (28-5) is immensely popular and always sells out very quickly. So be quick.
  • There is finally more clarity on the concept of the Engadin Radmarathon. Like last year, it will remain a stage race with a prologue on Friday and a stage on Saturday and Sunday. Registration opened on Jan. 1. The event itself takes place between June 30 and July 2.
  • GFNY-champ 2022 Luca Vergallito will get a pro contract with Alpecin through the Zwift Academy. He previously won the GF Tre Valli Varesine and the GF Coppi.
  • A bizarre doping case at the GFNY Florida. Mexican No. 4 Elias Barosso refused to take the doping test after the race and was eventually suspended for four years. GFNY CEO and anti-doping activist Uli Fluhme explains the incident in this thread on Twitter.
  • The Alé La Merckx Gran Fondo (Italy, June 11) acts as a UEC GF Championship in addition to UCI GF Qualifier. The winner will receive a winner's jersey in UEC colors (blue-white-yellow).
  • Registration for the first edition of the Gravel Fondo Limburg (on April 30, part of UCI Gravel World Series) is open as of now. The first 150 quick deciders will receive a discount.
  • The Tour du Dumoulin will cease to exist, reports Wielerflits. The reason remains somewhat unclear.
  • The Skoda Velotour, a popular German gran fondo, is increasing the maximum number of participants to 7,000 because of overwhelming interest. Already 5000 riders have registered. A report from last year can be read back here. The event, by the way, takes place on May 1.
  • RideLondon, a particularly popular (20k participants!) car-free sportive through the English capital, has been saved from destruction. Car brand Ford steps in as a new sponsor.
