Extreme rainfall has caused significant problems in several locations across the Alps. The French mountain village of La Bérarde, famous for its climb, has been completely washed away by a devastating mudslide.
The mudslide was so severe that residents of La Bérarde, near Le Bourg d'Oisans, had to be rescued by helicopter. The access road became completely impassable due to damage to the road surface and the destruction of several bridges. The region faced many more issues, including the temporary closure of the Col du Lautaret. The Glandon has also been closed, reports Le Dauphine.
The rain also caused major problems elsewhere. The well-known Swiss mountain village of Zermatt was completely cut off from the outside world by flooding and landslides.
In Tignes, where Visma-Lease A Bike is currently conducting altitude training, flooding has caused significant problems. The rainfall is so heavy that there are concerns about whether the summer skiing season can still proceed.
