That two-time Ötztaler Radmarathon winner Jack Burke is a unique character was something we already knew. For proof, you only need to read his recent interview (in Italian) with 360 Cycling. The 29-year-old Canadian has made headlines once again—and in spectacular fashion. This time, he claimed the KOM on the legendary Mortirolo.
Burke was a full minute and 7 seconds faster than the previous record set by none other than Vincenzo Nibali. Burke powered through with an average of 435 watts over 43 minutes and 45 seconds. This remarkable feat becomes even more impressive considering he achieved it in relatively cold conditions on November 16. The title of his Strava ride leaves no doubt about Burke's ambitions: "I just want a chance at the WorldTour. Anyone, anywhere, anytime. I’ll do whatever you want, I just want a chance against the best guys. Pogi, I'm coming for your Madone ;)."
The Austria-based Jack Burke is making waves in multiple arenas. Besides competing in (and winning) gran fondos, he is also the author of the book 'How To Become A Pro Cyclist'. Additionally, he hosts a podcast of the same name. Burke spent several years racing at the Continental level for various teams. In 2013, he faced doping allegations, but his suspension was overturned when it was proven that the substance 'hydrochlorothiazide' had entered his system through contaminated water.
Last season, Burke claimed his second victory at the Ötztaler Radmarathon. Just a few weeks later, he also won its smaller counterpart, the Kitzbüheler Radmarathon.
We will be speaking with Burke exclusively soon. If you have a question for him, leave it in the comments below.
