Pippo Garnero misses doping control after GF Mont Ventoux

Gran fondo regular Pippo Garnero from Brazil missed the doping control immediately after finishing the GF Mont Ventoux (in which he finished 5th).

The gran fondo in the men was won by Belgian Olivier Godfroid. Afterwards, the complete top 6 were summoned for testing. Garnero, however, was missing. The direction of the race has tried to reach him in several ways (including by phone), but without success.

Garnero is a big name in the gran fondo world. Among other things, he won La Marmotte in 2019 and Haute Route in 2021.

It is unclear what the consequences will be. CycloWorld has repeatedly asked the organization for a response in several ways. Unfortunately, all these messages remained unanswered.

Also Pippo Garnero could not be reached for comment. Normally he would start next week in Haute Route. It is unclear whether he is still welcome.

Accountability

CycloWorld spoke with 2 eyewitnesses who were present at the doping control. CycloWorld also spoke indirectly with someone from the organization. This person has confirmed that Garnero did not show up. The eyewitnesses want to remain anonymous, but their names are known to us. CycloWorld has repeatedly asked the organization for a response through various channels. This has not been answered. Garnero was also asked for a response. This was also not answered. The fact is that Garnero did not show up on Sunday for the GFNY La Vaujany, for which he was registered. That was even before the publication of this article.
