Did you know which event is known as the Marmotte of MTB marathons? Right, it's Salzkammergut Trophy? A name resonating for years with good reason. Unfamiliar with this challenging race? That's about to change.
Salzkammergut Trophy has been a fixture in the MTB world since its debut in 1998, drawing over 55,000 bikers to Austria. Rarely have they left disappointed. A closer look at the event reveals why. The longest route, a challenging 207 kilometers with 7000 meters of elevation, is reserved for the elite mountain bikers. However, the event caters to all levels with a choice of seven courses, starting from as little as 22 kilometers with 567 meters of elevation.
The event offers three starting places: Bad Goisern, Obertraun, and Bad Ischl. Your starting point depends on the distance you choose. When multiple courses start from one location, sufficient time intervals ensure a smooth flow, avoiding any interference.
All starting locations are in Upper Austria, near the picturesque Dachstein region renowned for its stunning landscapes, mountains, and lakes. Former Olympic MTB champion Bart Brentjens, who twice conquered the longest distance, endorses the event:
"It is a well-organized event. The longest distance is challenging but not overly technical." - Bart Brentjens
Salzkammergut Trophy aims for continuous improvement. Innovations include a route suitable for gravel bikes and a dedicated event for e-MTBs. The race concludes with an atmospheric finish village, enticing goodies, and a convivial pasta party. Support along the route is a given, a hallmark of Austrian events. Still unconvinced?
