Last year, CycloWorld would compete with a team in TOUR Transalp. A brutal stage race that, as the name suggests, goes right through the Alps. Unfortunately, this wonderful race was first postponed and then cancelled due to corona restrictions. This year the expectations are favorable. So we can try it again!
As a faithful reader of this website, I will report to you in the coming weeks about this adventure and the road to it. This year, Team CycloWorld will consist of Andries and yours truly. Andries is a graduated exercise scientist and was an amateur cyclist in his student days. Among cycling friends he is known as the Trainert (with a t). Recently, he finished 4th in his category in the GF Vosges. The level difference between him and me is very big, we are aware of that.
We have not yet decided on the exact tactics we will follow, more on that later.
Luc will also be competing individually on behalf of CycloWorld.
The team has a slightly different preparation than last year. Last year we were already training hard from January 1st, this year I started a month later. Andries did start earlier but was temporarily disabled in early spring because of a heavy crash during a training ride. In preparation, I rode the Volta Limburg Classic Tour and the Granfondo Vosges to activate my climbing legs. Furthermore, on the advice of Andries, I decided to opt for a 'Reverse periodisation' training schedule. More details about this method of training in a subsequent report. A tip of the hat: it's pretty different than usual!
The ATP (Annual Training Plan) has been completed the nice weather has started and training is in full swing. We are looking forward to it. Follow the team in the coming weeks in this ultimate challenge.
